This phenomenon takes place in Oklahoma, where ghost stories
abound. I have lived in several states, and nowhere have I heard as many ghost
stories as when I lived in Oklahoma. I will say that the culture is rich with
folklore and I loved living there! The people know how to live and enjoy
life.
My story
begins with my sister and her family moving to Northeastern Oklahoma, and us
visiting her there for the Christmas of 1967, just prior to us moving there
in the spring. She rented a two-story house with plenty of room for her six
children. One had to climb some steps to the front door, enter into a foyer,
and then climb stairs to the second floor where they lived. The landlady
lived on the bottom floor. The house was fairly large, with four bedrooms on
top.
One cold
winter night as we sat at the kitchen table playing forty-two, (a game played with dominoes) I was
about to make my bid when I heard footsteps coming up the inside stairs and
stopping at my sister's door.
"You have company," I
announced, as if everyone hadn't heard the steps.
"Why don't you go open the
door and let them in," my sister asked.
"This is your house, you let
them in," I replied.
"No, go ahead, it's
ok." She continued, so I got up and opened the door. No one was there!
"This happens every night at
10 PM." My sister explained. I have never forgot that strange
unexplained mystery.
This is a true experience. Calypso
