When dad retired in Houston Texas, we moved to Miami Oklahoma. I was 15 ½, in the middle of my sophomore year in high school. I loved everything about Miami. We moved into a small house next to a park and stayed there awhile, and then my parents decided to look for a larger house to purchase, so we found one and moved across town. Believe it or not, the house was haunted. I’m not one to see and hear things everywhere I go, but that house and the one where my sister and her family first lived in Miami were both haunted. And I might add, I’ve never been in or lived in another haunted house again. That was 42 years ago, so that should prove to you that I’m not one to find ghosts under every rug. After that, we bought a mobile home and
later moved it to
East Texas. To read the true stories about those
haunted houses, go to

My old Miami high school was neat! The building even had fire escapes…sadly they
tore it down and built a new school that resembled a mall. When I transferred from Houston Texas in 1967 the teacher straightened me out quick: I
was pronouncing Miami (Mi-am-ee), And
he said: “You’re not in Florida. It’s Mi-am-ah.” |

I’m not positive, but pretty
sure this is an old bridge out from Quapaw Oklahoma,
known as “The Devil’s Promenade.” You can read the legend
about it on my site here: http://www.mysteryrailroad.com/StrangeStories/Devils%20Promenade.htm |
Around 1968, I went to a carnival at the Miami Fairgrounds (above) and I spent my whole five dollars at a knock the cats over booth. I found the sheriff on the fairgrounds and told him I felt cheated. He went to that booth and ordered the attendant to give me half my money back. He handed me the $2.50 and said: “Son, next time don’t spend your money all in one place.” |

As a teenager I worked in Commerce Oklahoma (above) At Minson’s Grocery Store. Of course this picture was way before my time. |
The most interesting
phenomena around the area since the 1800’s is known as; “The Spook Light” or The Hornet Oklahoma Light.”
This picture circa 1960’s We used to go out and
watch the spook light from 2 – 4 times a week! What is it? After seeing it dozens of times, I have to
say: “Only God Knows!” Read about my experiences
and others, here on my site: http://www.mysteryrailroad.com/The%20Hornet%20Spook%20Light.htm |
