Carl Barks invented the beloved duck stories and has been dubbed “The Duck Man”.  My dad bought me about every Walt Disney comic book of Donald, Unca Scrooge, (that’s how Donald’s nephews pronounce his name), Gyro Gearloose and Huey, Dewey and Louie that ever came out.  I’ve got many comics that say on the cover: “Still 10 cents”.  Carl Barks wrote his stories about history, archeology, science, news of the times, and successfully mixed it with tremendously enjoyable fantasy!  Many times in school I knew beforehand about places and scientific inventions because of reading Carl Barks adventure stories… Among my all-time favorites is: “The Flying Dutchman”, “The Seven Cities of Cibola”, “The Prize of Pizzaro” and many more.  Even Stephen Spielberg was influenced by Bark’s Duck stories.

For years, my favorite way of relaxing after work at night or whenever has been reading long adventure stories of Unca Scrooge, Donald Duck, and his nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie.  They have traveled to explore about any place you came name via the wonderful stories and art of Carl Barks.  If you think the Barks comic stories are just for kids, you haven’t read them!!!  I can look at a duck’s comic and immediately tell if it is Carl Bark’s artwork.  I love the “kicker” that describes some of his comic blocks…those captions are so well written they “put you into the story.”   I remember in “The Seven Cities of Cibola”, as the ducks were heading out into the trackless desert in Donald’s famous old red convertible, the caption read:

”The Great Deserts of the west are mysterious regions”
