The area
known as the "Bermuda Triangle", Basically, extends from Bermuda
to Southern Florida, then East, past San Juan Puerto Rico to approximately
40 degrees west longitude. Many of the strange happenings you will read
about occur in a region of the Western North Atlantic known as the Sargasso
Sea, named after the Sargasso seaweed that proliferates the area. This area
was anciently called "The Sea of Fear". It is an uncanny area
where "Dead Calms" are frequent. There are no strong currents,
and no winds for weeks at a time. You can readily see what problems this
would pose for sailing vessels!
